June 17, 2017 Nancy Marlene Boyd of Urbana, Illinois passed away, surrounded by her family. Nancy was born October 22, 1935 to Burcie Fiscus of Champaign, Illinois and Herbert Fiscus, born in Indiana. She was born at Burnham City Hospital where she had seven aunts trained as nurses. She lived in Urbana where her father was a Texaco dealer for more than twenty years. He later passed away when he was Chief of Police of Urbana.
She married George R. Boyd of Urbana October 20, 1956. They had two children, Cheryl Elizabeth (Smith) and George Richard, Jr. Cheryl Smith, husband Ken and children live in the Oklahoma City area. George Jr. and wife Jodi live in the Jackson, Mississippi area. She also leaves three grandchildren (Kyle, Megan, and Andrew) and four great-grandchildren (Hudson, Lincoln, Afton, and Luke). She will be dearly missed by her family.
Nancy worked as an AT&T operator for several years. After her first child graduated from high school she went to work at Carle Clinic and retired after thirty years.
One of her primary interests was sewing and crocheting. Over the years she made hundreds of afghans for both babies and adults. More than sixty of the afghans were donated to Riley Children's Hospital and other charities. She also crocheted many afghans for friends and family.
She and her husband were married for more than sixty years. The family vacationed frequently throughout the United States. She was a member of the Mattis Avenue Free Methodist Church.
Funeral services for Nancy will be Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Mattis Avenue Free Methodist Church, 1913 S. Mattis Av., Champaign IL 61821.
