Obituary

Nadine Neucks, 91, long time resident of Champaign-Urbana, passed away on January 10, 2017 in California.

She was born May 19, 1925 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Emmett and Hazel Modesitt. She had one sister and three brothers, who preceded her in death, as did her devoted husband, Dr. Howard Neucks, who she married June 15, 1948.

Nadine is survived by two children, Dr. Steven (Betsy) Neucks of Indianapolis, Indiana and Ann (John) Nichols of Arroyo Grande, California. She was blessed with six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Nadine was a nurse, which complimented her eagerness to be of service to others and her gentle and compassionate nature. She was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Urbana, where she served as a deacon, a Stephen's Minister and was a Bible Study group member. She belonged to both PEO and the Carle Hospital Women's Auxiliary.

In 1982, Nadine decided to take quilting lessons. She and ten other women joined as a class, and when the lessons were over no one wanted to stop meeting. Thus, the Prairie Peacemakers were born. The women met every Wednesday in each other's homes for at least twenty-eight years. Her family members have been blessed with beautiful pieced and hand sewn quilts.

Shortly after her husband died, when Nadine was in her late 70s, she traveled with a church group to Malawi, Africa to help build a well for the people there. Two of the wells in Africa were named, one for Howard and one for Nadine Neucks. . Services will be held for Nadine at 12 noon on Saturday January 21st at the First Presbyterian Church of Urbana, 602 West Green Street, Urbana, Illinois 61801. Visitation will be one hour before the service with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations in Nadine's name can be made to the youth groups at the Presbyterian Church or a person's favorite charity. Services being handled by Renner-Wikoff.
