Minn "Peg" Brine, 84, of Champaign, died at 10:40 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 2011, at Bickford Cottage, Champaign. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. The Rev. Steve Diehl will officiate. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana.
Ms. Brine was born March 28, 1926 in Chrisman, Illinois to parents Cloyd and Laura (Smith) Wait. Survivors include son; Bill Brine, of Urbana, daughter; Shirelly Smith (Robert), of Homer, brother; Raymond Wait (Irma), of Urbana, five grandchildren; Pamela Starwalt (Steve), of Champaign, Vicki Stipp (Robert), of Villa Grove, Theresa Hoffman (Gene), of Urbana, Mark Parsons (Danielle), of Wisconsin, Melanie Marie Brine (Sean Olsen), of Monticello, five great-grandchildren; Ashley Parsons, of Urbana, Tyler Parsons, of Mahomet, Toby Stipp, of Villa Grove, Nicholas Hoffman, of Urbana, Cole Hoffman, of Urbana, and three great-great-grandchildren; Isaiah, Marley Marie Olsen, and Silas Maxwell Olsen. Peg was preceded in death by her parents, one brother; Harold Wait, and one daughter; Anna Marie Ohalla.
Ms. Brine graduated from Chrisman High School, and then attended the Illinois Commercial College in Champaign. She owned Knox Point General Store in Sidney and worked there for 15 years. She enjoyed volunteering for functions at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Urbana, where she attended. She was also a member of Women of the Moose. Peg volunteered for Urbana Adult Education for many years. She also held the distinction of being the first woman elected to the Sidney Town Board.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mills Breast Cancer Institute or the Champaign County Humane Society.
