Mildred E. Childress passed away peacefully at home on December 20th, at the age 85. She was born February 10th, 1929 in St. Joe Illinois to Van and Ellen Rice. Mildred lived in Fithian Illinois and attend Oakwood High School. She married Lewis Clayton Childress of Fithian on August 23rd 1947. They later moved to Urbana. Mildred is survived by her son, Mark Childress, of Urbana, and daughter Sandy McMasters (Jeff), of Collison. Granddaughter Shelley Mack-Dix, and four great-grandchildren Aaron, Ericka, Alexis Dix and Amee Diorio (Jacob). Three sisters Alta Mae Reed, Bernice Wilkinson, Jean Swaim including several nieces and nephews. Mildred worked at Fanny May Candies in Lincoln Square Mall for 30 years. She was known as "The Fanny May Lady". Mildred enjoyed being with her family. She was a caring, generous person, the core of our family and "Grams" to everyone. She was loved dearly and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Monday December 22nd from 5-8pm at Renner-Wikoff Chapel 1900 S. Philo Rd in Urbana. Funeral service will be December 23rd at 10am with Chaplain Tony Crouch officiating. Interment will be held that Eastlawn Cemetery in Urbana.
