PHILO, IL- Michael Dean Swaney, 53, of Philo, Illinois, passed away at 7:30 A.M., Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Vineyard Church, 1500 N. Lincoln Avenue, Urbana, IL with burial at Locust Grove Cemetery in Philo, IL. There will be a visitation prior to the funeral from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at Vineyard Church on Monday.

Mike was born on February 3, 1962, a son of Roger Lee Swaney and Judith Marsha Jamison Hackler. He graduated from Urbana High School in 1980 and attended Parkland College. He started as a Champaign County Deputy in 1985 and had also worked as a police officer in Villa Grove, IL. In 1992, Mike joined the Champaign Police Department, and was with the department until his retirement in November 2014.

Mike was a member of VFW Post 360 Urbana Mens Auxiliary, the Champaign-Urbana Elks Lodge, SAL American Legion Post 71, Lodge 17 Fraternal Order of Police, and the Police Benevolent Protective Association. Mike loved hanging out in "Swaney's Garage" and he enjoyed collecting antiques.

Survivors include his son, Sean Swaney of Charleston, IL, a sister, Karen Swaney of Urbana, IL, his step-mother, Nancy Swaney of Philo, IL, two step-sisters, Jana Perry of Philo and Cheryl Hettinger of rural Tolono, IL and a step-brother, Michael Mumm of Philo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
