Mary Irene White 79 of Urbana died at 8:26 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2008 at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana. The Rev. Dr. John Sims will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. After the burial there will be a reception at First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. White was born on September 22, 1929 in Toledo, the daughter of Arthur W. and Edna Eckert Hendrix. She married Paul White on November 24, 1949 in Annapolis; he died on February 25, 1980.

Survivors include one daughter; Jean Ames of Cary, North Carolina, one son; Steve White of Wake Forest, North Carolina, one sister; Ruth Frasier of St. Louis, Missouri and four grandchildren.

She was preceded by one sister.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Urbana, where she was an active member since she moved to Urbana in the early 1950's. She became the Church financial secretary after her husband's death in 1981, where she continued in this position until her retirement in 2005.

Mary was also an active member of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed hobbies such as gardening, sewing and cooking.
