Obituary

Mary Hurt Millican, 98, of Urbana, died 4:30 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2009, at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.

A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 22 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Urbana. Father Dennis Spohrer will officiate. Burial will be at Clements Cemetery, Urbana. Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana is in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Champaign County Nursing Home at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, January 22.

Mrs. Millican was born March 6, 1910 in East Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Leslie and Effie McKim Hurt. She married Richard Donald Millican June 28, 1942 at Sierra Madre, California. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by a daughter, Andrea Millican Hirtle (Stanley) of Dayton, Ohio; son, Rod Millican (Linda) of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother, Donald E. Hurt of Whittier, California; one grandchild, four nieces and two nephews. She is also survived by two step-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren and friend, Fred Paisley. She is preceded in death by three brothers.

Mrs. Millican graduated from Broadoaks Teacher's College and Stanford University and attended USC, UCLA, Iowa State University and the University of Illinois. She was a former teacher and homemaker. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Urbana, Women's Literary Club, Monday Writers, Delta Phi Upsilon, Circle of 1st United Methodist and Commerce Women's Club. Her interests include T'ai Chi, poetry and languages.
