Mary A. Jordan 83 of 1804 S. Vine, Urbana died at 8:50 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2012 at the Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana. She was born September 16, 1929 to the union of John Wesley Collins and Gennie Mae (Kennedy) Collins in Maury County, Tennessee. Her loving parents preceded her in death.
Mary spent her early years in Columbia and Mount Pleasant, Tennessee where she was educated in the public school system. Later in life Mary met and was united in holy matrimony to first husband Robert L. Southall Sr. She was blessed with three sons: Robert L. Southall Jr. (Bobby), Quentin and William Southall before relocating to Chicago, IL. Later in life Mary relocated to Champaign-Urbana, IL where she married second husband Whitney Cameron who preceded her in death. They were blessed with three children: Isaac, Floyd and Florence Cameron (Twins). Later in life Mary met Sam Williams her third husband and was blessed with one daughter, Angela Williams. Mary later met and married her fourth husband the love of her life Harry Jordan. Mary and Harry shared a special life together full of love and mutual devotion before he preceded her in death. Preceding Mary in death was her first husband Robert Southall Sr, second Whitney Cameron, fourth, Harry Jordan, Sons William (Billy) and Quentin Southall, Her loving parents Gennie Mae (Kennedy) Collins-Washington and John Wesley Collins, Earl Washington, Brothers George and John Collins Jr, a host of Aunt's, cousins and nephews.
She leaves to cherish her memory, sons Bobby Southall, Jr. and wife Alicia, Floyd and Isaac Cameron, daughters Florence Cameron and Angie Williams. One Brother Ross Collins, sister-in-law Pete Collins, A host of relatives and friends of Urbana Church of Christ.
Mary accepted Christ at an early age and remained faithful for over 40 years. She was an active member of the Philo Road Church of Christ Urbana, IL. Mary's concerns for others extended far beyond her regular attendance: She served as a member of the Church's Visitation Team preparing meals and delivering them to sick people.
Mary served for several decades as an election day judge for the City of Urbana, and as member of the officer's club on Chanute AFB. Mary was an avid Fighting Illini fan.
Mary Jordan worked as a civilian for each branch of the military. She began her career in the 1950's at the Great Lakes Naval base north of Chicago. She was responsible for ordering supplies for U S Army. In the 1960's, she began what would be a 28 year career at Chanute Air Force Base supply support services. Her work culminated in Mary receiving numerous outstanding performance awards for exceptionally meritorious service in support of military operations. Her professional work eventually led to Mary's promotion to Supervisor of Supply for nationally award-winning 3345th Maintenance and Support Group (ATC) at Chanute. Her most proud professional activity involved her Unit's ordering of supplies for the U.S. Space Shuttle program. After retirement from Chanute she worked for 12 years as a receptionist at First Federal Bank, Urbana, IL. Mary regularly contributed to many worthy causes as the Combined Federal Campaign and the Air Force Assistance Fund.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, Richard Miller and Randy Schilling officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana. Pall bearers will be Robert Southall, Floyd Cameron, Isaac Cameron, Dayon Southall, Robert Southall III, Steven Southall and William Southall Jr.
The family of Mary Jordan wishes to thank each and every one for their prayers, visits, floral tributes, sympathy and other acts of kindness shown during the expiration of our loved one. Continue to keep us in your prayers and may God bless each and every one of you.
