Mary A. Houk, 88, of Urbana, died at 9:50 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012 at C-U Regional Rehab in Savoy. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1 at the First Christian Church, Champaign with Pastors Tim Barber and Stan Syfert officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Thomason Cemetery, Wayne City at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Mrs. Houk was born May 22, 1924 in Keenes, IL, the daughter of Harry S. and Clara Berry Smith. She married Harlan S. Houk on September 14, 1946 in Mt. Vernon. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1996. She is survived by her daughters, Rita G. Seggelke (Tom) of Lincoln, Lynnette Syfert (Stan) of Flagstaff, AZ and Elizabeth Zepp of Urbana; a son, Bradley M. Houk (Kim) of Urbana; twelve grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by two brothers, James Grant and Albert E. Smith.
Mrs. Houk was payroll supervisor at the University of Illinois for 30 years. She was a member of Webber Street Church of Christ, Urbana and later the First Christian Church of Champaign. During WWII she was a riveter at Boeing in Seattle.
Memorials may be made to Little Galilee Christian Assembly in care of the First Christian Church of Champaign.
