Mary Medlicott Forbes, 92, of Urbana died on Sept. 10, 2011. Mary was born February 27, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of William H. and Sarah A. Medlicott. She grew up and graduated from high school in Auburndale, MA. She received her B.A. and M.S. degrees in Biology from Mount Holyoke College. After graduation she worked as a laboratory technician and attended classes at Cornell University, where she met her future husband Richard (Dick) Forbes. They were married on February 26, 1944 in Auburndale, MA.

As a child, Mary enjoyed extended visits and summer vacations with her Medlicott and Allen grandparents, great-grandparents, and extended family in Longmeadow, MA and enjoyed visits "home" to New England throughout her adult life. After WW II, Mary and Dick settled for several years in Lexington, KY, and then permanently in Urbana in 1949. Mary was active in many community organizations including the Community United Church of Christ, P.E.O., League of Women Voters, Meals on Wheels, and Urbana Free Library. After Dick's retirement, they both remained active in the community and enjoyed many years at Clark-Lindsay Village in Urbana.

Survivors include three children, Sally (and Robert) Decker of Wausau, WI, Anne Forbes (and Jim Lorman) of Madison, WI, and Stephen Forbes of Seattle, WA, three grandchildren, Eric (and Nicole) Decker, Ross Decker, and Robin Forbes-Lorman (and Carl Swanson), and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, and a granddaughter, Jennifer Decker.

A memorial service in celebration of Mary's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday October 29, 2011 at the Community United Church of Christ, 805 South Sixth Street, Champaign.
