Obituary

Mary Ann Armstrong, 71, of Champaign, IL, passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of Saturday (April 25, 2015) at home.

Mary was born February 6, 1944, in Urbana, to Theodore Joseph and Emily Mary (Miller) Burgin, Sr. she married Larry Dane Armstrong on March 24, 1962 in Urbana. She was a member of the Friendship Lutheran Church of Joy.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Robert A Burgin, Thomas E Burgin, Sr. and Theodore J. Burgin, Jr.; and a great-grandson.

Survivors include her husband, Larry D. Armstrong of Champaign; 2 children, Barbara (James) McCall and Richard (Suzan) Armstrong, both of Urbana; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Prior to graduating from Urbana High School, Mary took part in a special training program that led to a 4-year career in the dentistry field after graduation. Afterwards she worked as a bookkeeper for Aladdin Electric. Later, she worked for the USDA and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

At times she was a stay at home mom and also cared for children at her in-home daycare.

Mary enjoyed reading, travel, genealogy, cooking/baking. She loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Celebration of life services will be held at Friendship Lutheran Church of Joy located at 3601 S Duncan Rd. Champaign Illinois 61822 this Saturday May 2nd at 10:00 a.m., Pastor Brian Pape officiating.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
