Obituary

Martin L. Zeigler passed away at 12:27 a.m. Sunday, May 3, 2015 at home.

Mr. Zeigler was born in a farm house near Mechanicsburg, PA on September 18, 1921. He was the youngest of six children raised by Samuel W. and Mary E. Zeigler. He was preceded by his parents, five siblings and his wife, Sophia.

He is survived by his three children: Martin Jr. of Camden, MA; Robert of Manila, Philippine Islands, and Catherine who resides in Bloomington. He is also survived by six grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Martin graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in 1940. He was admitted to The Pennsylvania State University from which he was graduated with the Bachelor of Arts in 1943. He was called to active duty to serve in the Army. Commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry, Mr. Zeigler commanded a heavy weapons platoon throughout training and combat in Europe and the Battle of the Bulge and other areas of operations. He was retired with the rank of First Lieutenant in 1945. He then returned to Penn State to earn a master's degree in Political Science followed by a Ph.D. in Psychology. Martin remained on the University staff for fourteen years. Martin then accepted a position of Senior Administrator at the University of Illinois where he focused on the development of institutional studies to support the University's budget request as it processed through the University, the Board of Higher Education, and the General Assembly State of Illinois. He also dealt with other budgetary matters as necessary.

There will be no public services, and Mr. Zeigler's cremated remains will be interred at the convenience of the family.
