Martha J. (Prather) Storie, 85, of Urbana, passed away at 4:52 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 10 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. Rev. Jeffrey Graham will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service time.
Martha was born May 17, 1931 in Urbana, the daughter of V. Dewey and Doris V. Critzer Prather. She married David R. Storie on July 23, 1966. He preceded her in death on May 30, 2000. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Lois M. Prather, brother-in-law, Jerry Storie of Washington State, nieces; Lynda J. Prather Graham, and Virginia Storie Hall, nephews; Mark A. Prather, Richard B. Prather, James L. Prather, Charles B. Prather, and Jerry Storie, Jr., great-nieces; Kristen Prather Kirk, Jessica Graham, Lauren Prather, Erin Prather Miller, Ashley Prather Withers, and Stephanie Prather Stuart: great-nephews, Erik Prather, Philip Prather, Charles Prather, Ryan Prather, Joshua Graham, and Justin Graham. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Francis G. Prather, and Charles R. Prather, sister-in-law, Mary Ann Prather and a nephew, David B. Prather.
Martha graduated from Urbana High School in 1949, attended the University of Illinois and received her BS and MS. She was a delegate for the International Cultural Exchange Program through the National 4-H Foundation in 1953 which allowed her to go to France to stay with various families. She worked for Kraft Foods in Chicago and for a short time in San Francisco. She taught Home Economics the rest of her career at Lebanon American University in Beirut, Lebanon from 1958 to 1962, Central Washington University from 1963 to 1967, and in Seattle Public Schools from 1968 until retirement. Her interests were family genealogy and, along with her husband, was an active antique, art, and collectable dealer.
