Obituary

Marjorie Anne Scott Jost, 94, of Urbana passed away at 8:53 A.M. on Monday, April 11, 2016 at her home.

Anne was born in Bryan, Ohio on March 21, 1922 to Marjorie Roe Scott and Lane Scott, they preceded her in death.

She is survived by three children; Catherine Crawford (Kerry) of Fairmount, IL, Deborah Jost of Urbana and Scott Jost (Patricia) of Raleigh, NC. Also five grandchildren; Chris Crawford (Melanie), Eric Crawford, Megan Jost Doetsch (Jeremy), Laura Jost Malahias (Leon), Claire (Dan) Am and five great grandchildren. She had a long extended family which whom she remained close.

Her family was musical and Anne was passionate her whole lifelong about music. Her first job at the age of ten was a paper route for her grand father's paper. One of her deliveries was at the house of a civil war survivor. She started singing at a very early age and as a sophomore in high school she began her professional career as a singer with local and area dance bands.

She met her future husband, Kenneth Jost on the campus of the U of I, where she was singing and he was working his way thru grad school as a musician. Anne left campus to follow her career with Carl Deacon Moore Band through the east and in Ohio at WLW but when the big bands began to break up and she was afraid to fly and couldn't sign up with USO she had a career change with encouragement from Kenny, who was awaiting his draft notice. She followed her other passion and went to Arizona (Tucson) and taught riding on a large dude ranch.

Anne returned to Bryan when Kenny received his orders and they were married in Bryan on March 2, 1942. She stayed in Bryan throughout the war, as Kenny served overseas in London and Paris for two and a half years as a German interpreter. Catherine was born in his absence in 1944. On his return and discharge they returned to the U of I in 1947 and spent the next three years living in student housing (known as Stadium Terrace) until he received his PhD in Clinical Psychology. During those years Deborah was born in 1947 and Scott in 1950. They spent most of the married years in Wisconsin where he was a partner in the Shroeder Psychiatric Clinic in Racine, Wisconsin.

Kenny passed away in 1983. Anne spent eleven years as a volunteer at Kenosha Memorial Hospital where she worked in the gift shop making flower arrangements. In 1996 she made the move back to Urbana to be closer to her family. Her brother Fred moved here at that time from his house in Washington D.C. He and Anne spent many happy hours together before his death in Urbana in 2006. Their younger brother Carlton "Bill" Scott died in 1998 in Bryan Ohio, where his wife Marilyn still lives.

Cremation rites will be accorded. At her request there will be no services and any memorials would be welcomed at the Champaign County Humane Society. Condolences may be made at renner-wikoffchapel.com.
