Marjorie Hirsch, 87 passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at her home.
Born August 28, 1925 in Quincy, Massachusetts, a daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (McClay) Barrie. Married July 27, 1950 in Paris, France to Jerry Hirsch. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2008.
She went to Quincy, Mass. Schools and graduated from Connecticut College in New Haven, Connecticut where she majored in English. As a young woman she taught English in the Aroostock County public schools in Maine.
Marge studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, France, where she met her future husband, also an American. In later years she loved to travel, especially annually to Paris, France.
In the 1950's Marge graduated in French Studies at the University of California-Berkeley, while her husband , Jerry, finished his doctorate in Psychology there.
She moved to Urbana in 1961. Here Marge was a cub scout den mother. She was a member of the French Club at the University of Illinois and a member of A.C.L.U, marching locally in their fourth of July parade entry.
Marge will be remembered as a loving, generous and charitable person.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Jerry and two sisters. She is survived by one son, Wesley Hirsch of Urbana.
