Marilyn Welch died at 10:08 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Carle Foundation, Urbana. She was born in Tuscumbia Alabama on 6 November 1929 to William (Bill) and Cora McWilliams; both are deceased. She married Louis Fredrick Welch on 9 June 1956 in Cherokee Alabama. Mr. Welch preceded her in death 13 March 2009. They had three sons who survive them Charles Welch of Wood Dale Illinois, Thomas Welch of Ridgeland Mississippi, and Steven Welch of Urbana Illinois. They have five granddaughters, three grandsons, two great-grandsons, and one great-granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her three brothers and four sisters. Marilyn graduated with a bachelors of arts degree from David Lipscomb College on 4 June 1951. She taught students the history of Alabama at Cherokee Alabama High School before her first marriage. Marilyn was a Librarian during their early years. After her first son she became a homemaker, but this didn't stop her from volunteering. Marilyn was a Den mother, volunteered at Yankee Ridge school library for many years, then volunteered at the Champaign Nursing home. Marilyn's second marriage was to Loren Daniel Honn 15 November 2014 in Urbana Illinois at the Philo Road Church of Christ, where the two been friends with each other for decades. They were a great blessing to each other in sharing the twilight years visiting not only her natural born children, but her new stepchildren too Carolyn Edwords of Mesquite Texas, Stan Honn of Eugene Oregon, and Sara Qualls of Colorado Springs Colorado. She survived breast cancer, skin cancer, and suffered from Alzheimer's Disease in her later years. Although memories were patchy, she never lost her positive spirit. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 1:30 -2:30 p.m. at Philo Road Church of Christ, 2601 S. Philo Road, Urbana, IL.61801. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the church. Pastor Jon Smith will be officiating. Memorials may be made to the Philo Road Church of Christ in Urbana. Condolences may be made at www.renner-wikoffchapel.com
