Marilyn Jean Hamer 77 of St. Joseph, died at 6:39 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2010 at home after along battle with ALS. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Countryside United Methodist Church, Sidney. The Rev, Bill Eastin will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sidney. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hamer was born on July 19, 1932 in Sidney, the daughter of Claude M. and Helen J. Trees McElwee. She married Earl L. Hamer on April 21, 1957 in Sidney, he survives.

Also surviving are one son; Michael E. (Diane) Hamer of St. Joseph, one daughter Terri Hamer of St. Joseph, two brothers; Don McElwee of St. Joseph and Ron McElwee of Oakwood and three grandchildren; Matthew Hamer, Kristen Hamer and Liam Hamer.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Hamer graduated from Sidney Grade School and St. Joseph High School.

She was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church, Sidney, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was the Secretary/Treasurer of the building committee in 1975.

Mrs. Hamer loved her family, reading and gardening and was a caregiver for many years.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Carle Hospice or ALS Association/MDA.
