Obituary

Elda "Marie" Rinkenberger, 90, of Philo passed into the loving arms of Jesus, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 5t, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

A memorial visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 16, 2016, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, 101 Van Buren Street in Philo, Illinois. Pastor Seth Jersild will be officiating.

Marie was born on February 13, 1925 on a farm south of Eureka, Illinois. She was a daughter of John and Alice Mock Kantz, nee Sheppy. Marie is survived by three sons and a daughter: Robert of Fox Lake, IL, Dennis (Mary Ann) of Philo, John (Donna) of Urbana, and Jean McConkey of Champaign. Also, one sister Alice Jean Connolly (Jim) of Fredericksburg, VA, 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Virgil and Delmar Mock.

Marie loved being a homemaker and spending time with her family, cooking them meals and visiting. She worked as a unit secretary at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bloomington and as an in-home health caretaker. After retiring, Marie served as President of the Friends of Philo Library and enjoyed Illinois sports. Marie had many beloved dogs as pets throughout the years adopting those who were in need of a good home from the Humane Society. Marie was also an avid nature lover, especially enjoying bird watching. She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Philo. She was also a member of the North American Lutheran Church.
