Obituary

Marian P. Hohn, 96, died August 5, 2013 at heartland Health Care Services, Champaign, where she has resided since April of 2011. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Marian was born on February 5, 1917 in Monroe County, IL, the daughter of Henry W. and Bertha Nagel Pieper. She married Franz Hohn on June 15, 1939. He died on July 10, 1977. Her sister Lillian and brother Henry N. also preceded her in death.

Survivors include four children, sons Dr. David C. Hohn (Lucinda) of Buffalo, NY, Hubert F. Hohn (Angelica Festa) of Arlington, MA, and Christopher C. Hohn (Pamela) of Urbana, IL, a daughter Martha Friedlander (Thomas) of Dexter, MI, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hohn graduated from Waterloo, IL High School in 1934 as class valedictorian and president, from the University of Illinois in 1937 with honors in English, and with a Master's in 1939 also from the University of Illinois. She taught at Ottawa, IL High School and Unity High School in Tolono, IL.

Marian was a lifelong volunteer in whatever community she lived and whatever church she attended. She served on the boards of Cunningham Children's Home, the University Women's Club, the League of Women Voters, Champaign County Head Start, and various boards of the United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed her family, her garden, entertaining visiting family and friends at her dining room table, and opening her home as a host family for foreign students.

Marian was a source of strength and a role model for many people. She will be greatly missed.

She wished memorials be made to Wesley Foundation, Urbana, or Cunningham Children's Home, Urbana.
