Obituary

Malcolm Gale Davis, 97 of Urbana passed away at 4:26 p.m. Tuesday January 12, 2016 at the C-U Regional Rehab Center, Savoy.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 16 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana with visitation one hour prior to service time. Rev. Steve Anderson will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mayview.

Mr. Davis was born April 21, 1918 in Urbana, the son of Wallace V. and Rubie J. (Stitt) Davis. He married Lorraine R. "Peggy" Buckles February 9, 1940 in Urbana. She preceded him in death. He is survived by a son Gale Malcolm Davis and husband Barry Zahurance of Nashville, Tennessee and a sister, Gwendolyn Davis Gillen of Salem, Oregon.

Mr. Davis graduated from Urbana High School in 1936 and attended the U of I. He was a printer-compositor for the U of I Printing Dept. retiring in 1972. After retirement he worked from 1972 - 1994 at Schrumpf's Grocery in Champaign. He was also Election Judge for Cunningham Precinct 8 for 14 years, Recording Secretary for IL Typographical Union #444 and Recording Secretary for Twin City Federation of Labor AFL-CIO and was the longest active member of the First United Methodist Church of Urbana. He served in the US Army during WWII and was in the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. He met monthly with Urbana High School Class of 1936 at Urbana Gardens up until 2 years ago.
