URBANA - Maggie M. "Granny" Gaskin, 89, of Urbana, passed away at 4 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Road, Urbana. Pastor Ed Logan will officiate. Burial will be held at Bailey Cemetery, Tolono. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gaskin was born Feb. 28, 1920, in Barren County, Ky., the daughter of Henry Woodcock and Fannie (Elmore) Woodcock. She married Elmore T. Gaskin on Jan, 22, 1936, in Glasgow, Ky. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1981.
Survivors include five sons, Johnny D. Gaskin, who is at home in Urbana, Roy E. Gaskin of West Frankfurt, Charles L. Gaskin of Champaign, Robert T. Gaskin of Tenn., and Kennith C. Gaskin of Homer; two daughters, Doris Ashley of Del City, Okla., and Lottie Smith of Springfield; 34 grandchildren; 121 great-grandchildren; and 65 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, James, a daughter, Janet, and six brothers.
Granny was a member of Judson Chapel Baptist Church in Champaign and she enjoyed fishing and quilt making.
Memorials may be made to organizations for the deaf.
