Obituary

Madonna Lee Swisher (née McLemore) Madonna Lee Swisher, 92, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in Decatur. She was born on June 23, 1933, in Decatur, Illinois, to Raymond and Fleeta (Campbell) McLemore.


Madonna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Robert Swisher Jr.; her son, Joseph Robert Swisher III; her brother, Michael; her sisters, Madeline and Evelyn; and her parents. She is survived by her loving daughters, Jane Sanchez (Leo) of Urbana, Illinois, and Amy Craddock of Warrensburg, Illinois; her grandchildren, Gina Dawkins (Clayton), Garron Sanchez (Kristie), Dustin Sanchez, Christian Swisher, Hayley Kim (Harlie), and Alex Kim; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Mason, Brooks, Kyah, Roary, and Chelsea.


Madonna was known for her creativity and her deep love for her family. She especially enjoyed crafting and creating things with her grandchildren, making memories that will be treasured for generations. She was also a wonderful cook, famous among family and friends for her roast, fried chicken, spaghetti, caramel cake, apple salad, and the warm family gatherings that always seemed to happen around her table. She worked in retail for many years, most notably at Joseph Kuhn & Co. in Champaign, Illinois, where she was admired for her dedication and her great sense of fashion—a trait she carried throughout her life.


Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 405 W. Clark St, Champaign, Illinois. Msgr. Brian Brownsey will officiate.  A private graveside service for immediate family will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana, Illinois.


Memorial contributions may be made in Madonna's memory to 65 Roses (Cystic Fibrosis Foundation).
