Obituary

Funeral services for Lucius "Louie" Anthony D'Urso, 94, of Urbana will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 708 W. Main St. Urbana. The Rev. Joe Hogan will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church on Friday, preceding the services. Mr. D'Urso died Tuesday, April) 12, at 8:05 a.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital. He was born January 13, 1917 in Urbana, son of Laurenza Palmisano D'Urso and Anthony D'Urso. He married Ida Buttitta on June 26, 1941. She survives. Survivors also included a son, Louie D'Urso of Mahomet, 2 daughters, Anita Sullivan of Champaign and Lorrie Whitaker, Naperville. He has 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 brother and 3 sisters. Mr. D'Urso learned shoe repair from his father and worked in the family business on Race St. in downtown Urbana with his brother until retiring in 1979. He attended Urbana High School, was a Corporal in the Air Force Signal Corps serving in Europe in WWII, receiving an honorable discharge in 1945. He had been a lifetime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, a member of The Twin City Knights of Columbus, Third Degree 891. He also belonged to the Urbana Senior Citizens Club. Mr. D'Urso was an avid fisherman, belonging to the Pollywogs Fishing Club, watching sports, telling jokes and playing Pinnacle and Euchre. Memorials may be made to either St. Vincent DePaul Society in care of St. Patricks Church, or St. Patricks Church, 708 E . Main St. Urbana.
