Mrs. Lucille Fern Starkey, 100, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 at 1:05 a.m. at the Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana, Illinois. Graveside services will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 611 E. Pennsylvania, Champaign, Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. Cremation services are being handled by Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana.
Lucille was born to Murray and Elva Warren Legue on August 19, 1912 in Savoy, Ill. She attended Champaign Public Schools. Lucille and Virgil Starkey were married January 21, 1933 by Rev. Clifford Northcott at the Methodist Church Parsonage, Champaign. Virgil died Mar. 4, 2004. Both will be greatly missed. Lucille was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Beulah "Snookie" Schilling, a son, Floyd H., and an infant daughter, Shirley M. She is survived by several cousins and their families, a godchild, Diane Eaton Keffer, of Georgia, and a nephew-in-law Richard Starkey and his family.
Mrs. Starkey was a member of the First United Methodist Church and their Wheel 5 church group, Champaign, the Home Extension of Staley, and the Zeta Tau Epsilon social sorority. She had been in sales in the Ladies Ready to Wear Dept. at W. Lewis & Co., Champaign for several years, and later was cashier at The Pines Restaurant, Champaign.
Lucille and Virgil moved to Florida when Virgil retired but were soon moving back to the good cities of Champaign-Urbana. She missed her family, friends and her church most of all. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the church at 210 W. Church St., Champaign, IL 61820. Condolences may be offered online at www.renner-wikoffchapel.com.
