Obituary

CHAMPAIGN, IL - Lorraine H. Gordon, 87, passed away peacefully, surrounded by those who love her, at 11:35 A.M., Friday, November 12, 2010 at Carle Foundation Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church of Champaign. A memorial reception will be held from 5 - 7 PM Monday evening (November 15) at the Renner-Wikoff funeral home. Lorraine ("Lorrie") Gordon was born December 12, 1922 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to William and Caroline Gunn. She married Glenn H. Gordon on July 11, 1953 in Washington, D.C. He preceded her in death on November 2, 2001. She was also preceded in death by a son, William (Billy). She is survived by two children, Diane Gordon of Champaign, IL and Robert (Jody) Gordon of Champaign; five grandchildren: Janice Popovich (Chris) of Mahomet, IL, Jennie (Tom) Krager of Mahomet, Justin Gordon of Tolono, Quinton Troy of Cleveland, Ohio, and Tanner Gordon of Champaign. Lorraine had four great grandchildren: Kimberly and Brittney Krager, and Cole and Kyle Popovich. She is also survived by a brother, William Gunn of London, Ontario, Canada. Lorraine (Lorrie) graduated from Success Business College in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and moved to Washington, D.C. during World War II to work as a secretary for the British Navy. She met her husband, Glenn Gordon, while in Washington, D. C. They married, and she returned with him to Champaign, Illinois. When she wasn't raising her family, Lorraine worked as a secretary for several companies. She worked in the Parkland College Financial Aids Department for 15 years and retired in September 1989. Lorraine was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be remembered as a beautiful, sweet lady with a gentle spirit.
