Lois Aileen Schweitzer 84 of Champaign died at 1:38 a.m. Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana with family at her side.
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2010 at Stratford Park Bible Chapel, Champaign; Ken Raymond will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon, Michigan at a later date. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Schweitzer was born on July 29, 1925 in Owosso, Michigan, the daughter of Deuell and Mildred Mattoon Devereaux. She graduated from Corunna High School in 1943 and Michigan State College with a B.A. in Social Science in 1948. Throughout the years Mrs. Schweitzer was active in Cub Scouts and Green Meadows Girl Scouts. She attended Stratford Park Bible Chapel in Champaign and was a leader in Bible Study Fellowship. She was also very active in Cooperative Extension Spouses and EMH. She was a gifted soloist performing for many private functions as well as singing in and sometimes directing church choirs, the Dekalb Choristers, and Mother Singers. Lois was blessed with a happiness and contentment that transcended her circumstances. Her faith, graciousness, sense of humor, and gratitude for even the simplest things will be a lasting inspiration for all who knew her.
Survivors include two sons; David (Cathy) Schweitzer of Highland Village, Texas and John Schweitzer of Champaign, one daughter; Elaine (Brian) Chaille of Champaign, one sister; Evelyn Ziehm of Gagetown, Michigan, two grandsons; Gabriel and Christian Chaille, two step-granddaughters; Krista (Matt) Reimer and Melissa (Nick) Perez, and two step-great grand children, four nephews and two nieces.
Memorial contributions may be made to Stratford Park Bible Chapel or the Alzheimer's Association.
