Obituary

H. L. Lee Powell, 83 of Champaign died at 8:10 a.m. at home.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 21 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday May 24 at Westside Church, 1501 W. Park St., Champaign. Elder John L. Powell will officiate. Private burial will be at Arcola Township Cemetery. Mr. Powell was born July 12, 1925 at Benton, Ark., the son of Henry Herman and Esther French Powell. He married Genevieve Hemingway on May 31, 1943 at St. Charles, MO, and she survives. Also surviving are sons; John (Sue) Powell of Thomasboro, Jansen (Rhonda) Powell of Savoy, Vincent (Jayne) Powell of Fisher, daughters; Toni Pottorff of Champaign, Linda Unzicker (Dennis) of Champaign, ten grandsons, three granddaughters and fifteen great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Mr. Powell served in the US Navy during WWII. He was sales manager of Buick automobiles at the Buick Agency on Neil St. for over thirty years. He was a member and former Elder of Westside Church in Champaign and was founder of the Powell Family Singers, a family gospel singing group. He was also an avid Cub and Bear fan. Memorial contributions may be made to Carle Hospice Memorial Program.
