Obituary

Lawrence "Bud" Raymond Hatch passed away at 7:00 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2011 at Meadowbrook Health Center in Urbana. A memorial service will be held in his honor at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Clark Lindsey Village, 101 W. Windsor Rd., Urbana. The Reverends Katherine Kussmaul and Steven Shoemaker will officiate. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering at 5 p.m. at the Champaign Country Club.

Mr. Hatch was born February 4, 1912 to parents Walter and May (Lawrence) Hatch. After graduating from Urbana High School in 1930, Bud graduated from the University of Illinois College of Commerce in 1934, and received his degree from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1937. Bud married Ellen Ainsworth on June 4, 1938 in Mason City, Illinois. She preceded him in death on April 29, 1995.

Survivors include son William Hatch (Nancy), of Champaign, daughter Anne Collins (Norman), of Venice, Florida, grandchildren; Susan DiLeonardo (Frank), of Chicago, Lori Wildasin (Craig), of Venice, Florida, Cynthia Parker (Jason), of Michigan, Amy Lou Akin (Travis), of Champaign, Russell Hatch (Nicole), of Toronto, Canada and Andrew Hatch (Laura), of Champaign, and 13 great-grandchildren. Bud was preceded in death by his five siblings.

Mr. Hatch served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was stationed in the Pacific Theatre and Pearl Harbor. He practiced law for 74 years, first with H. I. Green Law Office and then with his own firm. He enjoyed his law practice with many partners and clients over the years. Bud was also a member of the Psi Upsilon Fraternity, American Legion 40 & 8, Champaign-Urbana Kiwanis, and the Champaign County, Illinois and American Bar Associations. He was honored as a Pillar of the Bar of Champaign County and as a Resident of Distinction of the Half Century Club of Urbana.
