Kathy June Miers, 81, of Savoy passed away at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Champaign Urbana Nursing and Rehab Center in Savoy.

A private family memorial service will be held at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory in Urbana. Pastor Mark Wilkerson will officiate.

Kathy was born in Polk City, Iowa on June 23, 1935 to parents Francis and Arleen (Coffman) Cox. They preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her daughter Marlys.

She is survived by her sons; Mel Hoyt (Amy) of Champaign, Michael Aviles of Lewisburg, PA and Matthew Aviles (JoEllen) of Phoenix, AZ. Her sister Carolyn Hawbaker of Batavia, IL, twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive her.

Kathy was a graduate of Perry High School and Omaha Baptist College. She worked as a medical secretary for many years at various hospitals in Iowa and Illinois. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Urbana. She always had a deep faith in God.

She loved listening to music and played the piano at church. She was a Sunday school teacher, played piano and sang in choirs in college. She always encouraged her children to be involved in music of all kinds. She was a collector of elephant memorabilia and loved being out in nature.
