Kathryn Hanes, 90, died Tuesday evening (February 20) after spending her final days at Carle Hospital where she was affiliated for many years. She was born 7-18-1916 at Conneaut, Ohio a daughter of Rev, A.E. Kemp and Ida Roush Kemp. She married Walter E. Hanes on 6-20-1940 at Elyria, OH. Walter died 10-19-1997.

Surviving are son Robert E. Hanes, his three children, Robert Eugene Jr., Shelby, and Travis and one great grandchild, Darby; and Patricia Hanes Meyer, her three children, Jennifer Suzanne, Claire Catherine, and John Andrew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four siblings, Wilber Kemp, Leland Kemp, Mildred Dawson, and Karlton Kemp.

A sixty year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Urbana Kathryn served on the Alter Guild, was a Deacon, and in the early years sang in the choir.

Kathryn was educated at Christ Hospital where she became an RN, served on the nursing staff at the time of the founding of Carle Hospital by it's five Founders, interrupted her nursing career to raise her two children, returned to nursing at Mercy Hospital where she remained for twenty years. Upon retiring from nursing, Kathryn immediately became an active member of the Carle Hospital Auxilliary.

Funeral Services will be at 11.30 AM, Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Urbana. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00PM, Friday, at the Renner-Wikoff Funeral Home located at 1900 S. Philo Road.
