June Frances Michelson, 95, of Urbana died peacefully on December 4, 2012 at Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Born on August 26, 1917 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, June was the daughter of Frederick and Annabelle Spellerberg. Receiving her Master's Degree from the University of Idaho, June taught high school English for many years in Washington State, Maryland, and New Jersey. As a lieutenant with the American Red Cross in World War II, she served in field hospitals in France in 1944-45, caring for wounded American soldiers and airmen. She married Captain Leonard H. Michelson at Camp Lucky Strike in Normandy, France, in July 1945. He died in 1991.

June's survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Theresa Michelson of Urbana; her two grandchildren, Hope Michelson of New York City and Sarah Rogers of Madison, Wisconsin; her beloved niece Ann Karas of The Woodlands, Texas; and her great granddaughter Cora Hope Rogers.

Services will be private. Internment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. Memorial donations can be made to the Grace United Methodist Church in Urbana, or to the Champaign County Humane Society.
