Obituary

June Foster died in her sleep on May 7 at 92 years of age. June was born November 12, 1917 in her parent's home in rural Moultrie county, near Sullivan, Illinois. Her father was Opha Clarence Yarnell and her mother was Hazel Fern (Evans) Yarnell. She is survived by two sons, Doug (Bonita Springs, Fl) and Greg (Urbana), a sister Joyce (Savoy), six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Dean Foster and one son, Alex. June graduated from Sullivan Township High School in June 1935, entered the University of Illinois in September and graduated with Honors in 1939. As a graduate assistant she continued her studies. In October of 1939 she married Dean Frank Foster. They lived in Urbana until they moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1942. Their three sons were born there. After the death of her husband in 1957, the family returned to Urbana, Illinois. June resumed her graduate studies, worked with the Extension Editorial Office and as a graduate assistant at the Child Development Laboratory. In June 1962 she received her Master's Degree in Child Development and Family Relations and was employed by the State agency responsible for regulating child care facilities. In 1964, a new agency, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, was established to administer the licensing of child care facilities. For the next 18 years she enjoyed her expanding responsibilities and professional opportunities to improve both quality and quantity of child care facilities. In addition to providing direct and administrative services in the 16 county Champaign Region, she was an active member of several state, regional and national committees and professional organizations. In January of 1980 June retired and for the next 10 years continued serving on several regional and state advisory committees. Prior to and during her retirement, June enjoyed life to the fullest.
