Joseph H. Stiene 73 of Urbana died at 4:23 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 at the Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.

He is free from the awful disease that took over his mind and body for so long. He has made it to his forever home.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the First Christian Church, Champaign, the Rev. Tim Barber officiating. A Reception will follow at the church. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stiene was born on March 18, 1938 in Narrowsburg, New York, the son of Henry W. and Mary Dexheimer Stiene. He married Evelyn Lackey on October 17, 1959 in Narrowsburg, New York, she survives.

Also surviving are one son; Joseph S. (Kimberli) Stiene of Tolono, one daughter; Autumn (Mark) Stiene of Winter Haven, Florida, two brothers; Edward Stiene of Monticello, New York, Henry J. Stiene of Huntersville, North Carolina and two grandsons; Cale and Carson Stiene.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Mr. Stiene was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He retired as a police officer from the University of Illinois and also from the city of Urbana parking garage. He also taught at the Police Training Institute.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Champaign, the Fraternal Order of Police and the National Rifle Association.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Huntington's Society.
