Joseph Wayne Ray, age 86, of Garden City, Idaho, died 11:55 p.m. Thurs., Feb.8 at home. Funeral services will be Sat, Feb. 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 South Philo Road, Urbana, with visitation from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Fri. at the funeral home where Masonic Rites will be accorded at 8:00 p.m.. Interment will be at Locust Grove Cemetery in Philo with Military rites by Champaign VFW Post 5520. Mr. Ray was born Dec. 11, 1920 in Philo, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Louisa Litton Ray. He married Donna Louise Gordon on Sept. 26, 1954, she survives. Also surviving is a son Rick Seymour, daughter Debra Ray Seymour, a sister, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Ray graduated from Unity High School in Tolono, joined the Navy during WWII and was discharged in 1946. He was a plumber at the University of Illinois for 24 yrs. and a member of the Plumber and Steamfitter Local 149 and also a 50 yr. member of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada. He was a life member of Philo Centennial Lodge No. 747, Champaign and a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Valley of Danville. He was a member of the Champaign VFW Post 5520 and the DAV since 1977. Mr. Ray loved children, his family and friends, horses, roses, cars and sunsets. He will forever be remembered for his brilliant smile and for his pure and kind heart. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Assoc., the American Diabetes Assoc. or the Alzheimer's Association.
