Joseph L. Palmer 70 of Urbana died at 6:10 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

A Celebration of Life service will be from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Webber Street Christian Church, Urbana, the Rev. Danny Roberts, Rev. Mike Fuqua and Elder Jim Bisch will officiate. Private graveside services will be held in Algiers, Indiana. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Palmer was born on May 24, 1939 in Algiers, Indiana, the son of Raymond M.D. and Violet K. Whitehead Palmer. He married Dorothy Trotter on November 23, 1960 in Champaign, she survives.

Also surviving are two sons; Joseph (Patricia) Howard Palmer of Urbana and Ronald Dean Palmer of Maryland Heights, Missouri, three brothers; James Palmer of Evansville, Indiana, John Palmer of Petersburg, Indiana, Jerry Palmer of Terre Haute, Indiana and two granddaughters; Lyndsey Palmer and Lacey Palmer both of Urbana.

He was preceded in death by one brother; Jay.

Mr. Palmer retired after 40 years with the United States Postal Service.

He was a Marine Corp. veteran and a member of Webber Street Christian Church, Urbana.

Mr. Palmer was a member of the American Postal Workers Union. He loved fantasy football and basketball, bowling, history, music, traveling, exercising, was an Illini fan and a Washington, Indiana Hatchets fan.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to an organization of the donor's choice.
