Joseph A. Jackobs, age 89, of Urbana, died 7:15 p.m. Sun. Feb. 25, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill. Funeral services will be at First United Methodist Church of Champaign at 1:30 PM Thur., March 1, Rev. Terry Harter and Rev. Joe Peacock officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wed., Feb. 28 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Champaign.

Mr. Jackobs was born Oct. 23, 1917 at Spooner, WI, the son of Joseph and Edith Sawyer Jackobs. He married Marian Caine on June 17, 1941 in Madison, WI. She preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 2005.

He is survived by a daughter-Meredith Fay of Sidney, Four grandchildren and Two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ransom, son, James A. Jackobs and Two brothers.

Mr. Jackobs attended the University of Wisconsin where he received his doctorate in Agronomy. He was a professor of Agronomy at University Of Illinois, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, member of the American Society of Agronomy, Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society, The Smithsonian Institution and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Champaign. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
