Joseph L. Coats, 102 of Urbana passed away March 20, 2026 at Carriage Crossing of Arcola. Joseph was born January 31, 1924 at East Prairie, Missouri, the son of William and Ruby (Free) Coats.  He married Wanda Lavonne Mahanna she preceded him in death on October 1, 2000.

Joseph is survived by his sons, Joseph, John and his wife, Connie, grandchildren, Angela, Valerie, Jarad and Crosby, nephews, Carl and Michael.  Also his adopted "granddaughter", Angela.

Joseph served in the United States Army during WWII.  He was a sergeant in the Corps of Engineers.  After his Discharge, he worked in the Physical Plant for the University of Illinois, Urbana.  He was a member of V.F.W. Post 630, Urbana.

Private services will be held with local burial and military rites.
