John William Funk, 89 of Quincy formerly of St. Joseph died at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the Illinois Veteran's Home, Quincy.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Funk was born on December 2, 1923 in Bremen, Ohio, the son of John Clement and Blanch Marie Schmelzer Funk. He married Catherine Louise Delaney on September 22, 1956 in Urbana, she survives.
Also surviving are two sons; Thomas (La Donna) Funk of Monroe, Michigan and John Funk of Urbana, one daughter; Elizabeth Funk of Urbana, two brothers; Paul E. (Laura) Funk, Donald E. (Leona) Funk both of Lancaster, Ohio, one sister; Gertrude E. Hale of Lancaster, Ohio, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter; Patti Lynn and one brother; Richard E.
Mr. Funk served in the U.S. Army from 1944 - 1946 and the U.S. Air Force from 1946 - 1967. He worked at the University of Illinois from 1967 - 1987.
He enjoyed woodworking.
