Obituary

John L. Warhover, 70, of Urbana, passed away at 11:45 a.m., Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Provena-Covenant Medical Center, Urbana surrounded by family. A visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Monday, October 15, 2012 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. A funeral service will be held at Renner-Wikoff Chapel following the visitation at 6:00 p.m., Monsignor Ramer will officiate. Burial with military rites will be held October 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.

Mr. Warhover was born October 30, 1941 to parents Paul James and Virginia N. (Turcott) Warhover. His father, Paul was killed in action during WWII. He was reared by Charles Erwin and Virginia. He married Susan Kirby on September 22, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Urbana, she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters; Kim Deane (Chris), of Urbana, Ohio, Catherine Hoctor (Stephan), of Momence, Illinois, two sons; David Warhover (Kathy), of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Brian Warhover (Lisa), of Urbana, Illinois, seven grandchildren; Daniel, Matthew, McKenize, Michael, Johnathan, Jordyn, Alexander (A.J), one great-grandchild; Andrew, two aunts; JoAnn Williams, Billie Wuest, one sister; Royce Ann Tindall (Bill), of Crescent City, Florida, one brother; Paul James Warhover (Denise) Vaca Ville, California, six nieces, three nephews, and in-laws; Mike Kirby (Leslie), Steve Kirby, and Craig Kirby. John was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Michael.

Mr. Warhover was a retired U.S. Army Veteran. There, he served 24 years in Missile Defense and the K-9 Corps and finished his military career with the Illinois National Guard where he was the recipient of a Medal of Valor for saving a family from a house fire. John was a trucker for various Broadway shows and worked for Fox River Foods for more than ten years before retiring.

John's Hobbies included fishing, NASCAR, and the St. Louis Cardinals. His house was a festive retreat for scores of family and friends for any special occasion and was always open for an entertaining session of storytelling. John was the perfect host.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Champaign American Legion Post #24, of which John was a member.
