John Harper Putman, 81 died peacefully November 20, 2015. He was born in Normal, Illinois October 25, 1934 to parents Dale and Ruth Messer Putman. He graduated from Normal Community High School in 1952. He married Virginia (Ginny) Breedlove on November 27, 1953 in Kankakee, Illinois.

John was involved in the insurance business his whole life, his preference being crop/hail insurance. He valued his time and interaction with his agents and farmer clients. A member of University Place Christian Church, he sang in the choir for 30 years.

He was preceded in death by daughter Jeann Marie Putman, daughter Susan Putman Gibson and his beloved sister Marie Carden. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Ginny; a son, John (Susan) Putman of Mobile, Alabama; a brother Karl (Dorien) Putman of Marshalltown, Iowa; brother-in-law Robert Carden of Reading, Massachusetts; grandsons Daniel and Finn Putman, cousins Ann Nelli, Linda Allen, Steve Wissmiller, Ed Sams, Joey Highland, Marilyn Draper and Jeanie Smith.

A reception will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana, with a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. Rev. Kris Light officiating.
