John L. Hendon, 82 of Urbana died at 10:32 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana. Andy Dallas will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Hendon was born on August 19, 1926 in Black Rock, Arkansas, the son of John Riley and Alpha Ellison Hendon. He married Georgia Needham on July 3, 1945 in Memphis, Tennessee; she died on August 14, 1996.

Survivors include three daughters; Norma (Terry) Albright of Racine, WI, Marcella (Joe) Slejza of Cicero, IL, and Joni (Joe Berry) Anderson of Peoria, IL, a daughter-in-law; Wendy Hendon of Urbana, one sister; Mary Brewer of Lepanto, Arkansas, fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, two brothers, and two sisters.

Mr. Hendon was a retail store manager for Zayre Corporation.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed woodworking.
