John K. Goeken, 39 of Savoy passed away Saturday May 2, 2026 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

John was born June 11, 1986 at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, the son of George W. and Helen (Rodriguez) Goeken III.

He married Phoebe M. Mbuvi on December 4, 2020, Danville, Illinois.

John is survived by his wife Phoebe, a 3.5-year-old daughter and a 20-month-old son.

John served in the US Marine Corps from 2004 to 2013. He was a senior at Grainger School of Engineering at the University of Illinois study majoring in Electrical Engineering. John had so many hobbies including motorcycle riding, jujitsu, military veteran advocacy, shooting at the gun range, collecting cigars, and was a whiskey connoisseur, just to name just a few. He had recently started teaching himself how to sew and had several projects lined up to complete for his wife. Most importantly, he deeply loved his wife and kids, and spending time with them was his absolute favorite activity.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday May 15 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 Philo Rd., Urbana, IL.  Military Rites will be immediately after the funeral service.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday May 14 at the funeral home.
