John V. Brahana 90 of Champaign died at 4:27 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2009 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana. The Rev. Mary Brady will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Champaign. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Brahana was born on August 21, 1919 in St. John's New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Henry Roy and Myrtle VanWart Brahana. He married Evelyn Thompson on May 16, 1942 in Champaign, she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter; Mary Ann (Don) Graham of Champaign, one son; Van (Rosemary) Brahana of Fayetteville, Arkansas, one brother; Thomas R. (Mary Ann) Brahana of Athens, Georgia, four grandchildren; Todd (Kara) Brahana of Menlo Park, California, Mathew (Sara) Brahana of Billings, Montana, Eric (Nicole) Graham of Charleston, South Carolina and Chad (Meredith) Graham of Urbana and five great grandchildren; Collin, Isabelle and Elsie Brahana, Hudson and Davis Graham.

He was preceded in death by one sister; Francis May Brahana.

Mr. Brahana graduated from Urbana High School, Illinois Technical College and Illinois Commercial College, Champaign.

He was a veterinary assistant at the University of Illinois and worked for Goldblatts.

Mr. Brahana was a member of First United Methodist Church, Champaign and the Champaign Sportsman Club. He enjoyed photography.
