Jerome J. Steerman 88 of Urbana died at 4:05 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014 at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Urbana, Rev. Fr. Joel Phelps officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Steerman was born on December 15, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Henry and Carolyn Schneider Steermann, he married Merle Joyce Gear on December 1, 1951, she died in October 1978. He then married Nancy Louise Gauthier on January 8, 1983 in Urbana; she died on May 18, 2012.

Survivors include eight children; Dr. Christine Steerman of Rochester, New York, Jessica Steerman of Champaign, Anne Steerman of Oak Harbor, Washington, John Steerman of Palmetto, Florida, Jane Bergman of Champaign, James Steerman of Oak Harbor, Washington, Joseph Steerman of Champaign and Edward Steerman of North Carolina, one sister; Margaret Steerman of Lake Barrington and numerous grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother; Henry Steerman II, one sister; Annette Jackwig and an infant sister; Dorothy.

Mr. Steerman was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of WWII.

He graduated from Loyola University with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics.

Mr. Steerman was a Health Physicist at the University of Illinois.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Urbana, Central Illinois Orchid Society serving as Treasurer for many years, Health Physicist Society, Knights of Columbus, Rotary and the bowling league at the University of Illinois.

Memorial Donations may be offered at St. Thomas Moore High School.
