Obituary

Mary "Jenny" Genevieve Powell, 100 of Champaign, met her Lord on January 13, 2026.  She was born July 15, 1925 in Arcola, the daughter of William Franklin and Ina (McBride) Hemingway.  She married Henry Leonard Powell on May 31, 1943 in St. Charles, MO. He passed away on May 19, 2009.


Jenny is survived by her children, John Powell of Thomasboro, Jansen Powell (Rhonda) of Savoy, Vincent Powell (Jayne) of Fisher, Toni Pottorff of Champaign and Linda Unzicker (Dennis) of Champaign.  13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.


Jenny was a homemaker and a wonderful seamstress.  She was a member of Westside Church, Champaign since 1954 and enjoyed reading the Bible.  She was also a long time Chicago Cubs fan.  She was a mother and grandmother to many and was loved by all.


Jenny, with her husband Lee founded the "Powell Family Music Ministry"  in 1966.  Her husband purchased a used bus and the family travelled around the country sharing the gospel with music.


Visitation will be Friday January16 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 S Philo Rd. Urbana.  Memorial Service will be Saturday January 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Dewey Community Church, 16 3rd St, Dewey.
