Janet G. "Jan" Donovan, 80, of Champaign, passed away peacefully at 5:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at her home. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. There will be a funeral procession to Grandview Memorial Gardens, 4112 W Bloomington Rd. Champaign, where a graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., with Pastor Hank Sanford officiating.

Jan was born May 9, 1937 in Spring Valley, Illinois to parents Glenn and Clara (Anderson) Smith; they preceded her in death. She married John L. Veale-Donovan in 1957 at Polo, IL; he preceded her in death November 17, 1993. They have four surviving children: Randy J. Donovan (Cynthia Wells), of Champaign, IL, Sandie J. Appleman (David), of Decatur, IL, Kirk J. Donovan (Lorie), of Champaign, IL, and Kevin G. Donovan (Joanne), of Nederland, TX. Nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. Jan was preceded in death by her sister, Francis "Jean" Giovanine.

After graduating from DePue High School, Mrs. Donovan began working at Duncan Insurance in LaSalle, IL as a secretary. She also worked at Roberson's Department Store for many years, and later at Vonachen Service and Supply in Urbana. In her retirement years, she thoroughly enjoyed cooking and attending estate sales and auctions. She was known by many throughout the area and had a keen eye for quality crystal ware. She also enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and she will be sincerely missed. Memorial contributions may be made to an organization of the donor's choice.
