Janis "Jan" Elaine Shearer, 70, of Savoy passed away at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Jan was born in Orange, New Jersey on October 24, 1946 to parents James A. and Lois I. (Davis) Shearer. They preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her brother Daniel L. Shearer and her husband Lee Kail who passed away in June of 2000.

She is survived by her brother Terry (Margaret) Shearer of Urbana, two nieces and one nephew.

Jan was a graduate of Champaign High School, Class of 1964 and a graduate of University of Illinois where she earned her Master of Arts degree. She is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Urbana-Champaign.

Jan worked as a postal clerk for the United States post office, she also worked as a clerk for the University of Illinois Library and was a substitute teacher in the Champaign-Urbana school system.

She loved cats and she enjoyed gardening and playing bridge.
