Obituary

James "Jim" E. Roney, 84, of Urbana, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 19, 2012 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 701 E. Florida Ave., Urbana. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 11:00 a.m., also at the church. Rev. Terry Strom will officiate. Burial will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Jim was born March 26, 1928 in Champaign to parents James and Genevieve (Crawford) Roney. He married Lois L. Murrah July 11, 1948 in Champaign; she survives. Also surviving are children; Daniel L. Roney (Ginger), of Urbana, Constance S. Maestas (Bernal), of Alamosa, Colorado, John Roney (Judy), of Laurel, Maryland, sister; Yvonne Reed, of Urbana, grandchildren; Tony Maestas (Andrea), of Colorado, Danielle Roach (Wayne), of Bellbrook, Ohio, Phillip Roney, of California, great-grandchildren; Bryan and Mianna Maestas, of Colorado, Joshua and Benjamin Roach, of Bellbrook, Ohio, great-great-granddaughter; Cammi Maestas, of Colorado and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, step-father; Ted Walden, brother; Donald, and sister; Patricia Thompson.

Jim graduated from Champaign High School in 1947, working on the ICRR during his last years in school. He later worked for Unit 4 Schools and Carl Ray Landscaping in Louisville, Kentucky. He retired from the City of Urbana Public Works Department as a meter maintenance technician.

Jim especially loved working on his lawn and other things around his home. He was a sports lover and played football in high school. He enjoyed fishing and was always delighted when his children accompanied him. Jim loved music and dancing with his wife and sisters. He was a family man who loved everyone and will be missed by many loving friends and family members.
