Obituary

James "Jim" or "Roach" Rauch, 67, of Urbana, passed away peacefully at 10:39 a.m., Friday, November 24, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital. Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory is handling arrangements. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at "The Hill" at a later date.

Jim was born February 26, 1950 at Burnham Hospital in Champaign, Illinois to parents Edgar and Marcella (Cler) Rauch; they preceded him in death. He married Sheryll Newman on Friday the 13th of January, 1989 in Louisville, Kentucky; she survives, along with their son, James Cecil (Patti), of Urbana. Jim is also survived by his siblings: Carol Shelton (John), of Tolono, Donald Rauch (Grace), of Pesotum, and Theresa Lange (Rick), of Pesotum. His canine daughter, Abigail Rauch, also survives.

Jim worked for more than 31 years fueling semi-trucks on the lot for J.M. Jones Supervalu. He retired as a Trailer Mechanic. However, Jim was a hard worker and always maintained his own side business: cleaning, landscaping, and maintaining yards. This business, "The Clean-Up Man," turned into Jim's full-time job, and he loved every minute of it. He was a dedicated, reliable man, and his customers valued his work ethic.

Jim was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was also a celebrated deer hunter, and had already shot four deer this season, one of them a 12-point buck.

Those who knew Jim knew where they stood with him. He was a trustworthy straight-shooter who always used his "outside voice." Despite his tough exterior, he was truly a soft-hearted man. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
