James Stanley Petticrew, 86, of Urbana, passed away at 3:24 P.M. on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. A visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 10:00 A.M- 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana.
James was born in Tolono on July 17, 1929 to parents Stanley and Dorothy (Shaw) Petticrew. They preceded him in death. On September 23, 1950 he married Delores Clark at University Place Church; she passed away on November 10, 2011. Also preceding him in death were his brother and infant granddaughter, Melissa Eastin.
He leaves behind three daughters; Nancy Renfrew Morgan (Michael), Debbie Eastin (Myke), and Janet Wahlfeldt (Randy), all of Champaign, a brother; Harry "Buck" Petticrew (Dixie) of Dieterich, IL., grandchildren; Anne Mitchell (Nate), Jill Renfrew, Danny Wahlfeldt, Haley Eastin, Chris Wahlfeldt and Jenny Eastin (Harry), great grandchildren; Anthony Jones (Autumn), Devon Williams, Morganne Jones, Jordyn Lenoir, and Kailee Lenoir and great great grandchild; Kayden Jones.
Jim was raised on farms in rural Champaign County and schooled in Sadorus and Tolono, where he graduated from high school. He worked as a milkman for Urbana Pure Milk Co. until 1965 and was one of the last milkmen to use a horse and wagon to make deliveries. He continued to work in many people-oriented careers, working at McKinney's IGA, Champaign Co. Bank & Trust and as Vice President of Busey Bank, retiring in 1999. He dressed up as Santa Claus for Busey Bank, Wiley School, and for his family. He also never missed a track meet, cross country meet or ballgame that his grand children were participating in.
Jim enjoyed his family and his many friends; he was always making new friends because he never knew a stranger. He was greatly loved and will be missed by family and friends.
The family would like to thank the Carle staff on the 8th floor for their excellent care.
